We are very proud to be recipients of the Inclusion Quality Mark - Flagship School, July 2014. At St. Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, we believe every child is a unique child of God. We therefore strive to raise the attainment of children with special educational needs (SEN), children learning English as an additional language (EAL), children of ethnic minority heritage (EMA) and able and talented children.
We believe at St. Vincent’s that all members of the school community are entitled to be treated and to treat other equally with consideration, courtesy and respect. All in our community have the right to equal opportunities in all aspects of our school life, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion or ability. We aim to provide equal access to our broad and balanced curriculum. We consistently strive to match opportunities to the interests, needs and abilities of the individual. We make full provision for members of our community, children and adults alike, with learning difficulties, bilingual, physical and medical needs, to ensure equal access to all areas of school life.
All children are special, but sometimes difficulties may prevent a child from gaining the full advantage from the educational opportunities offered within their class. In our school we have procedures for identifying and assessing children’s special educational needs. These learning difficulties can be supported with extra help from the class teacher and the classroom assistant and are overseen by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).
Once identified, children are closely monitored and will have targets which are achievable and measurable. This is renewed each term by staff, parents and pupils. These children fall within the category of SEN Support. Where necessary, advice is sought from a member of the borough’s Special Educational Advisory Team.
For some children, extra support is needed and, in agreement with parents/carers, the school may request an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

At times when children are struggling to make progress, we implement intervention groups to support their needs. Below is a list of intervention groups currently running at St Vincent’s.

New arrivals to our community are assessed and supported through our induction process. Other pupils are supported in class and class teachers are helped to deliver appropriate teaching plans. Dual language resources are provided to support variety of home languages.
Our pupils have attended the ‘Descendants’ Achievement awards and we are currently involved with Ealing Borough’s Black Children’s Achievements Programme.
The school is committed to supporting children, parents and carers to apply for Free School Meals and direct them to other agencies for financial, respite or housing support. The school has a trained Learning Mentor who supports children through difficult times caused by bereavement, separation, divorce and other family issues.
We are equally alert to the identification of children who are exceptionally able and aim to meet their needs in a challenging and stimulating way across the curriculum.
Throughout the school class work and homework is differentiated. Provision is made in class for the extension of the most able pupils in different curriculum areas. Staff employ a variety of means to identify the Gifted and Talented children within each year group. These include both formal and informal assessments.
We celebrate the abilities of our most talented pupils and acknowledge their outstanding achievements in the fields of art, music, drama and sport.
